Close to Erdogan?
Bundestag election: Controversial group plans to take part
Will voters find another new party on the ballot paper in the next parliamentary elections in Germany alongside the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance and the Values Union? Apparently, the controversial Democratic Alliance for Diversity and Awakening (Dava), which is said to be close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is also planning to take part.
"We first want to concentrate on the European elections and see to what extent we can mobilize our voter potential," Dava leader Teyfik Özcan told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland on Thursday. After that, they want to establish themselves nationwide.
Dava is to be transformed into a party
At the moment, it is still a political association. "But the long-term plan is to transform Dava into a party." Özcan vehemently rejected any direct connection to Erdogan's AKP party: "We have no contacts with the Erdogan government or other foreign governments."
Critical voices against Dava are coming from the political arena. "The party's leadership is associated with the AKP lobby, the Islamist IGMG, but also the banned Hamas fundraising association IHH," wrote CDU member of parliament Christoph de Vries on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
Agriculture Minister: "We don't need Erdogan offshoots"
Germany's Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir wrote on X: "An Erdogan offshoot running for elections here is the last thing we need." SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich, meanwhile, warned that we must first wait and see whether the party becomes relevant in any way. The chairman of the Turkish community in Germany, Gökay Sofuoglu, told the Redaktionsnetzwerk: "I see no reason to panic. A party that is only founded according to ethnic criteria and only focuses on ethnic issues only has a marginal function."
