When a man was knocked out with a punch in front of a bar in St. Pölten and left unconscious, the doorman stood by and did nothing. The 28-year-old did not want to "take a hit" himself. He is now on trial for failing to render assistance. And pleaded not guilty. But there is a video of the incident.

A violent encounter at the end of August last year outside a pub in St. Pölten has now come to a head in court.

After an intoxicated 33-year-old tried to enter the bar despite being banned from the premises, the doorman and a 56-year-old customer stood in his way. Visibly angry about the unexpected "barricade", the two spoilsports were met with a hail of verbal abuse.

Video as evidence
Probably too much of a good thing for the 56-year-old, he knocked the 33-year-old down with a punch. He then lay unconscious on the ground. While the thug calmly walked back into the bar, the bouncer stood idly by in front of the entrance. Now the 28-year-old had to answer for failing to render assistance in court in St. Pölten. And pleaded not guilty.

The public prosecutor is trying to find out why he did not act. "I didn't want to get one too. We had a good chat beforehand," he explains. After both the thug and another witness were absent, the trial was adjourned.
