Two seriously injured
Driver crossed into oncoming lane on B311 in Schwarzach
In Schwarzach in Salzburg, three men were seriously injured on Saturday morning when two cars collided head-on. One of the drivers (36) drove into the oncoming lane. The injured were taken to two different hospitals.
A serious accident occurred at the east portal of the Schönberg Tunnel in Schwarzach on Saturday, resulting in three injuries. Two cars collided and two of the men involved were seriously injured.
"The accident happened around 50 meters outside the tunnel portal," reports head of operations Josef Machner from the Red Cross. The speed limit there is 80 km/h. "That's how fast the drivers were traveling." One of the two, a 36-year-old man from Pinzgau, presumably drove into the oncoming lane. There he collided head-on with an oncoming 37-year-old Romanian, in whose car there was also a 54-year-old passenger.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be rescued by the fire department. One of the seriously injured was taken to the shock room at Schwarzach Accident Hospital and suffered life-threatening injuries. The second seriously injured person was flown by emergency helicopter to Salzburg Accident Hospital. The passenger was able to free himself from the wreckage and was also taken to Schwarzach Hospital. Five emergency doctors were on duty. The Red Cross was on site with two emergency and four paramedics. The B311 was closed around the accident site and a detour was set up.
