Nationwide increase
Crises stimulate the business of human energy specialists
While there is a desperate search for skilled workers in many sectors in Austria, one professional group is enjoying increasing popularity: human energy specialists. Jennifer Bucher, a qualified health and nursing professional from Eisenstadt, has also recently changed careers.
The current crises and upheavals in our society are affecting more and more people emotionally because nothing seems stable and secure anymore. Some people are so preoccupied by the daily horror scenarios outside that all they can think about is worry. The constant circling of thoughts influences the emotional world and increases fear, anger and powerlessness, so that you also feel physically weakened, stressed, tense, exhausted or as if you are under power. In order to find their own center again, more and more Austrians are turning to human energy therapists in addition to doctors, psychologists and masseurs.
Professional group is growing
While the Chamber of Commerce recorded 18,732 tradespeople in this profession nationwide in the pre-coronavirus year of 2019, by the end of 2023 there were already 20,285. The largest increases were in Vienna (+1553), Lower Austria (+429) and Styria (+375). However, there are now also almost 130 more human energy specialists in Burgenland than five years ago.
"The vast majority of those who choose this profession are women. Many of them previously worked in the social sector - as nurses, caregivers, receptionists or teachers, for example," says Gabriele Schnödl (63), the chairwoman of the "Personal Service Providers" specialist group at the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce.
Holistic approach
Jennifer Bucher (29) also recently opened a "practice for holistic health" in Eisenstadt. Before that, the Oberloisdorf native worked for eight years as a qualified nurse at the Brothers of Mercy on various wards - including acute psychiatry, accident surgery, internal medicine and the Covid ward.
She was able to acquire extensive knowledge of conventional medicine everywhere. However, she gradually realized that there was less and less time in hospital to "look at people holistically, as an inseparable unit of body, mind and soul". This was precisely why she had once started her training.
Activating self-healing powers
"In order to uphold this integrative approach, I focus not only on illnesses and symptoms, but also on the healthy part, the mental state, traumatic experiences in the past and the needs of a client. An optimistic, life-affirming attitude can have a demonstrably positive influence on any recovery process - whether it's a simple cold, a broken bone or cancer. That's why I specifically try to activate the client's self-healing powers and help them to relax and come to rest. Because relaxation strengthens the immune system," says Bucher.
Complaints and their mental cause
Because everyone is unique, she deals with complaints individually in a first discreet initial consultation and then tries to find suitable treatment methods in consultation with the client. In addition to mental training and meditation, which can help to dissolve blocking beliefs, develop a positive self-image, regain inner strength and increase concentration, she also offers massages with singing bowls and healing stones, aroma treatments with essential oils, Bach flower consultations, scar removal and balancing treatments for the so-called "chakras". These arethe energy centers between the physical and subtle body.
"Shoulder or lower back pain, for example, can result from poor posture and poorly trained muscles, but can also be caused by emotionally stressful life situations. I use various methods to support my clients in feeling and sensing more and paying attention to their needs and limits. Many people don't do this because they only function," says Bucher.
Bucher does not see herself as a substitute for doctors or psychotherapists, but as a source of inspiration for more self-love. She also doesn't want to keep her clients dependent: "If I did that, I would have missed my job."
