Red warning level in the east
Heavy squalls soon to sweep across the country
There will be no sign of winter in the coming week - temperatures will continue to rise. According to the experts at the Austrian Severe Weather Center, temperatures will reach up to 18 degrees. But before that, a stormy westerly wind will once again blow through Austria. Vienna is particularly affected by the heavy gusts. Warnings are already in place.
There are currently severe weather warnings in Lower Austria, Vienna and Burgenland. A red warning level applies there on Sunday. From Upper Austria to northern Burgenland, dense clouds will move through with the strong westerly wind and a few raindrops will fall in places in the north. Highs will range between five degrees in the Mühlviertel and 15 degrees in the southern mountains from East Tyrol to Joglland in eastern Styria.
Heavy squalls in the night to Monday
The new week will start with lots of clouds and isolated rain showers, especially from Upper Austria to northern Burgenland, which will gradually subside during the day. However, there will hardly be any sunshine in these regions. In the south and west, however, it will remain dry, clearing up during the day and becoming increasingly sunny.
Heavy squalls are to be expected from Vienna to Steinfeld, especially in the night to Monday and on Monday morning.
Nikolas Zimmermann, Meteorologe bei der Österreichischen Unwetterzentrale
The wind will continue to blow gale-force from the west in the north. "Particularly on Monday night and Monday morning, heavy squalls are expected from Vienna to the Steinfeld", says Nikolas Zimmermann, meteorologist at the Austrian Severe Weather Center. Temperatures will reach up to 16 degrees - 17 degrees are also possible around the Graz basin.
It will be a touch milder from Wednesday
On Tuesday, the influence of high pressure will increase somewhat, so it will remain dry with a friendly mix of sun and clouds. Only isolated early morning fog is to be expected in inner Alpine valleys and in the southern basins. The wind will ease somewhat. At up to 17 degrees - locally 18 degrees - it will be a touch milder. The highest temperatures are expected in the south of Lower Austria. It will also remain dry on Wednesday, with sunshine at times.
"Don't write off winter yet"
The likelihood of rain will only increase again from Thursday. Temperatures will also drop slightly, but are likely to remain at a high level for the time of year next weekend. "Although the temperatures next week will bring spring fever, you shouldn't write off winter just yet," warns Zimmermann. "Over the course of the second vacation period, the models are tending to point to a return of winter in Central Europe."
