Owner arrested
England: Woman attacked and killed by dogs
A woman was attacked and killed by two dogs in England on Saturday afternoon. The 39-year-old suspected owner of the animals was arrested, the police in the county of Essex announced on Sunday morning.
The victim was a 68-year-old woman from London who was visiting her eleven-year-old grandson in the village of Jaywick on the North Sea coast of eastern England. The victim's daughter told the "Mail Online" portal that the dogs were so-called XL Bullies.
"Specialist officers made sure the scene was safe and there was no danger to the general public. Unfortunately, two dogs had to be killed as a result," the statement continued. The police did not initially disclose which breed of dog was involved.
Woman died on the spot
The police called on eyewitnesses to the incident on Saturday afternoon in the village of Jaywick on the North Sea coast of eastern England to come forward. The woman died on the spot, they said.
For some time now, the British government has been taking tougher action against dogs that are considered dangerous and their owners. Since February 1, for example, so-called XL Bullies - a mixed breed based on a type of pit bull terrier - may only be kept under strict conditions. This is due to several fatal dog attacks in recent months.
