A woman is suspected of having started the fire in Donaustadt.

Woman allegedly set fire to bedspread
At first, the cause of the fire in the ground floor apartment at 9 pm could not be explained. On Sunday afternoon, however, it emerged that the fire had apparently been started, according to the provincial police headquarters. The suspect is the partner of the seriously injured man, a 53-year-old woman. She is said to have set fire to a comforter and left the apartment after failing to extinguish the fire.

Arsonist likely to be mentally ill
Police spokesman Markus Ditttrich announced that there were indications of a possible mental illness in the woman. She may also have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime. In a brief initial interrogation, the 53-year-old admitted to setting fire to the comforter. She could not give a motive. "She said she didn't know why she did it," said Dittrich. The 53-year-old was transferred to a psychiatric ward after consultation with the journal prosecutor of the Vienna public prosecutor's office and charged with negligently causing a fire.

Man in artificial deep sleep
Her partner, who was rescued from the apartment on the ground floor by the Vienna fire department "at the last moment" - according to fire department spokesman Christian Feiler - is now in a hospital in artificial deep sleep. He had suffered burns and a smoke gas injury.

The professional fire department had to extinguish the fire on Saturday with a total of eight vehicles and 39 firefighters.
