Accidents on the slopes in Sölden cause serious injuries
In the Sölden ski resort, there were frequent and sometimes serious accidents between winter sports enthusiasts on Sunday. The perfect weather attracted many ski and snowboard enthusiasts to the slopes on the first weekend in February. Unfortunately, there were numerous accidents. This resulted in several serious injuries.
A German skier (53) and a female skier (59) were skiing down the same piste in the Sölden ski area at around 10.50 am on Sunday. In the area of a narrow section, the 53-year-old had to avoid two skiers standing on the piste and then collided with the 59-year-old, causing her to fall. The skier was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter after receiving initial treatment from the piste rescue team.
Continued without stopping
A short time later, there was another crash: at around 11.00 a.m., a German skier (58) was skiing downhill. As the skier started to make a left turn, an unknown man skied over her skis and there was a collision, causing the woman to fall. The second skier involved continued his journey without stopping. After first aid by the piste rescue team, the woman was transported to a doctor in Sölden, who diagnosed serious injuries.
Seriously injured skier
The next accident occurred at around 11.20 am: in the "Giggijoch" area, there was a collision between a 36-year-old Dutch skier and a 20-year-old German snowboarder, whereby the skier was seriously injured and, after initial treatment by the piste rescue team, was taken to the valley by land.
Emergency helicopter in action
A German skier (59) lost control of his skis in the "Gaislachkogel" area at around 11.20 a.m. and consequently left the route and fell around ten meters down a steep snow slope. After first aid by the piste rescue team, the man was transferred to Zams Hospital by emergency helicopter.
Deep cuts on the thighs
At around 2.15 pm, there was a collision between a 49-year-old Ukrainian skier and a 14-year-old Czech snowboarder in the "Giggijoch" area, whereby the woman ran over the snowboarder's thighs with her skis while he was sitting on the piste. The snowboarder suffered deep cuts to his thighs and was also taken to a doctor in Sölden after first aid by the piste rescue team.
A Dutch skier (27) lost control of his skis in the "Gaislachkogel" area at around 2.20 pm and crashed into a signpost board there. After first aid by the piste rescue team, the skier was flown to Zams Hospital by emergency helicopter.
