Driver trapped in vehicle
On Tuesday morning, a young man from Wels (20) drove his van into the oncoming lane on Wiener Straße and collided with an oncoming car. The two vehicles involved in the accident literally wedged into each other.
The driver of the car, a 67-year-old man from Schwanenstadt, was apparently so badly trapped in the vehicle that the emergency services had to spend more than two hours extricating him from the wreckage. His wife, who was the same age, and the driver of the van were also seriously injured. They were taken to hospital by an emergency doctor and helicopter.
Loaded with liquid oxygen
Incidentally, there was another hazard in the crash: the van was carrying liquid oxygen, which was brought to safety. Wiener Straße was closed for a total of three hours for recovery and clean-up work in the area of the accident.
