Missiles on Kharkiv
Two-month-old baby killed in air strike
Russia attacked the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv with missiles on Tuesday. A two-month-old baby was killed in a hotel. The baby's mother was injured, according to official reports.
"Three women, aged 21, 28 and 39, were hospitalized with blast and shrapnel injuries, including the mother of the child who was killed," the military governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synyehubov, announced on his Telegram channel on Tuesday.
"Terrorist attack against civilians"
The three-storey building in the settlement of Solochiv, around 20 kilometers from the border with Russia, collapsed as a result of the hit. Synyehubov spoke of "another terrorist attack against civilians".
Defensive missiles used for air strikes
The village north-west of Kharkiv is said to have been hit with converted S-300 air defense missiles, which Russia regularly uses to strike ground targets in its war of aggression against Ukraine. The Kharkiv region, which borders Russia, is one of the hardest hit by the war in Ukraine.
Synyehubov reported artillery and grenade launcher attacks on 20 other villages in the region. There had also been air strikes. The locations mentioned by Synyehubov in this context are in the Kupyansk district, where Russian troops are advancing from the east. The strategically important railroad junction on the banks of the Oskil River was liberated by the Ukrainian army as part of its counter-offensive in the fall of 2022. Now the Russian forces want to recapture Kupyansk.
Drones intercepted over Belgorod
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, the Russian armed forces have intercepted seven Ukrainian drones over the Russian border region of Belgorod. None of the drones reached their target. The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, stated that there were no injuries or fatalities. However, falling debris from the destroyed drones damaged four houses in the town of Gubkin.
Belgorod and other regions on the border with Ukraine are repeatedly shelled by the Ukrainian armed forces. The attacks are primarily aimed at the Russian military and transport infrastructure.
