After cancer shock
Is a reconciliation of William and Harry imminent?
Royal fans are in shock. First Princess Kate (42) had to undergo an operation on her stomach, and a few days later it was announced that the British King Charles III was suffering from cancer. Many are now wondering how Prince William is coping with these strokes of fate - and whether he and his brother Harry will get closer again in these difficult times after a long period of silence ...
Prince Harry's relationship with his brother William is still frosty. William in particular is said to have no interest in mending the rifts in his relationship with his estranged brother. They are said not to have exchanged a word with each other for months. It is virtually ice age.
The reasons for the feud: in his memoirs, published in 2023, Harry revealed private and juicy details from the life of the British royal family, had already left the "firm" with great fanfare and fired verbal poison darts in the direction of his blue-blooded relatives for months shortly after the "Megxit".
Teasing, accusations and allegations dominated global media coverage for months, with Buckingham Palace facing a constant stream of negative headlines. This was followed by numerous interviews with the disowned second-born, who finally initiated a Netflix documentary to keep the conversations about him - and probably also the "g'riss" about his biography - going. Harry wallowed in his role as victim.
The prince did not shy away from claiming that his wife was treated in a "racist" manner at the palace. All in all, Harry's efforts to verbally attack the royal family culminated in a drama that not only angered its members, but also caused lasting damage to its reputation.
What is known about Charles' diagnosis so far
During an operation on his prostate, Charles was diagnosed with cancer in another area. It is not known what type. He will withdraw from public life until further notice and undergo treatment. He is "completely positive about his treatment". He will continue to conduct state business. Charles is to be treated as an outpatient. Nevertheless, less than a year after his coronation, the future of the royals seems more uncertain than it has for a long time.
Harry carpentered victim role as 'rejected' son
In 2020, Harry more or less broke with the royal family and has no longer been allowed to call himself "His Royal Highness". He no longer performs any royal duties and has built a private life in California. Since then, there has been an ice age across the Atlantic. Official celebrations are also held without Harry, Meghan and Charles' grandchildren Archie (4) and Lilibet (2). Ignorance on both sides.
Brothers used to be considered inseparable
The rift has not yet been mended, the rifts seem too deep, which are certainly also rooted in their childhood. In an interview, Harry complained that his brother William was generally withdrawn and had closed himself off for far too long after the death of Princess Diana - something Harry suffered from. The brothers were very close in earlier years and were long considered inseparable.
Besides, Harry is only the spare anyway (hence the title of his biography, "Spare"), he scoffs; nevertheless, he has always been in competition with his brother. There was competition. William once threw him to the ground and injured him in an argument. According to Harry, he had to work through all of this in therapy.
Harry rushed to London immediately
But now he is taking a step towards the family. After Charles told him about the diagnosis in a "warm phone call", as reported by the British Sun, he immediately traveled to London to support his father in these difficult hours.
On Tuesday, Charles appeared in public for the first time since his cancer diagnosis was announced (see pictures above). The 75-year-old was seen leaving his Clarence House residence in London with Queen Camilla in the back of a car. Both smiled and waved as they drove past.
The pair reportedly drove to Buckingham Palace and from there took a helicopter to their country estate at Sandringham in Norfolk in eastern England. Charles is said to be "in good spirits" and positive about beating cancer.
Visit only lasted 50 minutes
At Sandringham, the King is also said to have met his 39-year-old renegade son. The visit is said to have lasted only 50 minutes. Nevertheless, Harry's rapprochement fuels the hope that the bad news will at least bring a little more harmony to the Royal Family.
No meeting with William planned
But will Harry be welcomed with open arms and will he and William be able to settle their differences? According to media reports, there will be no meeting between the brothers during the flying visit. The situation is "very difficult to heal".
William is convinced "that trust, the basis of any relationship, has been completely destroyed", a royal family expert is quoted as saying. It is to be hoped that the brothers will soon bury the hatchet - for the sake of their own salvation, their family and, above all, their father ...
