Incident on ÖBB train
Caught fare dodger beats up conductor
Painful service for an ÖBB conductor on his way to Salzburg: when the 56-year-old wanted to expel a fare dodger from the train in Pörtschach, Carinthia, his fists flew. The attacker was arrested!
Shortly after departure from Klagenfurt, an escalation occurred in a carriage at around 9 p.m.: during his inspection activities, an ÖBB conductor caught a 34-year-old Romanian who had boarded the carriage without a valid ticket. The ticket inspector then wanted to "throw the fare dodger out" at the next station in Pörtschach.
This did not suit the unreasonable and drunk suspect at all: he "responded" with his fists, knocked the 56-year-old conductor to the ground with a punch to the face and finally fled from the train. A 33-year-old colleague of the victim witnessed the brutal attack and alerted the police.
The attacker returned to the scene of the crime
And the officers who arrived a short time later were able to save themselves the trouble of a manhunt: The suspect returned to the platform while the facts of the case were still being reported at the scene, was recognized by the witness and subsequently placed in handcuffs. While the victim ended up in hospital, the Romanian was initially detained in the Villach police detention center in accordance with immigration law. The investigation is ongoing.
