Foreign policy expert:
“Biden still president, but Trump is already governing!”
Everything had actually been negotiated between the Democrats and the Republicans. But election campaigner Donald Trump intervened. The financial aid for Israel and Ukraine fell through in the US Senate. "Krone" foreign policy expert Kurt Seinitz summarizes in the krone.tv talk: "Biden is still president, but Trump is already governing."
"One man (Donald Trump) is forcing the USA to abandon an ally (Ukraine). This will have lasting consequences for the image of the USA and for international affairs as a whole. We will also feel it economically."
By influencing the Republicans, Trump has set policy until November: "He will not allow any more legislation to pass between now and the election that could bring the Democrats to power. That means nine months of political gridlock in the USA."
"Not capable of compromise"
The foreign policy journalist explains what could happen if Trump becomes president: "The entire US policy of the last 100 years will be completely changed. The Republican Party has become a cult, with a messiah at the top, a savior, a savior who is no longer capable of any compromise at all. But American democracy only works with both houses."
"Netanyahu is waging a personal war"
Another "no" is also currently preoccupying foreign policy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not responding to the "bizarre demands" of the radical Islamic Hamas for a ceasefire, as he said in a late-night TV address. Instead, he instructed the Israeli army to "prepare" an operation in the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Seinitz: "Netanyahu is waging a personal war, that's the tragedy of the whole thing. He knows very well that he can't make any concessions, then his two fascist coalition partners would immediately jump ship." In the event of new elections, Netanyahu knows that he is out of a job. "He is waging a personal war at the expense of thousands of people. 27,000 deaths are no small matter."
