Forensics at the crime scene have been completed: Two perpetrators are being sought.

New details after the horror attack on a couple in Würnitz (Lower Austria). A total of three bullets were fired. The Romanian robber who was shot by the 71-year-old is still unresponsive.

On the spot where dozens of police officers cordoned off a detached house the day before and crime scene investigators meticulously secured evidence, only a carpenter's van was parked on Thursday morning. The hustle and bustle after the horror attack in the Weinviertel village of Würnitz has died down.

Family dog raised the alarm
As reported, three sinister figures forced their way into the building. The family dog barked and woke his wife (50) from her sleep. Then everything happened very quickly: the unscrupulous trio did not hesitate for long. One of the intruders hit the woman with an iron bar until her husband (71) was able to rush to her aid.

Shot at robbers with a revolver
The rest is known: The pensioner reached for his legal revolver (he has a gun ownership card) and shot the robbers on the run. The landlord is said to have fired three times, as it turned out - one of the burglars, a Romanian, was hit in the upper body. He has not yet been questioned.

"Acted in self-defense"
"My client clearly acted in self-defense," says Peter Philipp, the shooter's lawyer. "He had to defend his wife, who had previously been attacked. The case is very clear to me. The men acted with a brutality that I have never seen before." Video recordings of the crime should prove this.

The 71-year-old himself did not want to give an interview about the incident on Thursday - standing by the carpenter's van - for the time being. In the "Krone" interview, he only said this much: "I'm not a hero. I just did what everyone should do."
