Suspected murder
Parents of dead infant arrested
The parents of the three-month-old baby who died in Vienna from a shaking trauma have now been arrested.
The tragic story: A few days ago, a 26-year-old Serbian-born woman and her 29-year-old partner brought their three-month-old son to the Vienna-Ottakring clinic. The little boy was probably already unconscious.
In any case, the doctors diagnosed a severe shaking trauma - various bones in the little boy's body were probably also broken. The hospital became suspicious and called the police.
Although the little boy was transferred to Vienna General Hospital, the doctors could do nothing more for him. He died due to his serious injuries. The parents still have a two-year-old child together, who has already been placed in the care of crisis foster parents.
On Thursday, the judiciary said that there was currently "no urgent suspicion against the parents that would justify a pre-trial detention". The breaking news on Friday: Following an examination of the initial police reports and the hospital documents submitted, it had been concluded "that there is suspicion of a crime", said authority spokeswoman Nina Bussek. The couple was arrested on Thursday evening.
An autopsy of the body has already been ordered. The parents are to be questioned as suspects over the course of Friday. According to the police, the couple had suffered a shock after the death of their son - there is also a two-year-old daughter who now lives with crisis care parents - and were initially not fit for questioning.
