Dornauer friend suspended from her own party
Alessia Ambrosi wants to get to the top very quickly - and is not squeamish about it: in order to become regional leader of the Fratelli d'Italia, she attacks the party leadership hard. This now has consequences for the Italian politician and friend of Tyrol's SPÖ leader Georg Dornauer. However, this is unlikely to stop her on her way to the top of the right-wing camp in Italy ...
Giorgia Meloni's Fratelli D'Italia (FD), which is classified as "post-fascist", is in turmoil. Different camps, hardened fronts. The latest "victim" of the disputes: Alessia Ambrosi, who only switched from the centre-right Lega party to FD in 2021. Although victim is probably the wrong word: Ambrosi, "known for her aggressive, authoritarian and ambitious character", as Italian media describe her, had criticized her own party line for weeks, harshly attacked her own regional party leadership and called for the resignation of party leader Alessandro Urzi. The result: a two-week suspension from the party.
And this has consequences for the local politician, who has created publicity for herself with harsh statements and bikini photos: Ambrosi will probably have to end her candidacy for the party's provincial chairmanship. The election will take place on February 17 - during Ambrosi's suspension.
Threat of a split in the party
Her supporters - and Ambrosi has created many of them in her three years as a party member - suspect "sabotage" behind the suspension: the only opponent in the upcoming elections is considered a close confidant of the current party leadership, but would probably have had little chance against Ambrosi.
If the suspension remains in place and Ambrosi is excluded from the election, her supporters could leave the party as a whole. A serious blow for the Fratelli, who clearly missed their election target of 20% in Trentino in the last elections in October 2023 and more than halved their share of the vote to 12% compared to the 2022 elections (25.5%).
According to Italian political observers, in the event of a split, Ambrosi's camp would probably remain in the end. And her path to the top would continue, with a clear warning to all critics: don't stand in the way of this woman.
