Increased air strikes
Fears of war between Israel and Lebanon
There is currently growing international concern that there could be an escalation between Israel and Lebanon. The Israeli army has now stepped up its airstrikes on the neighboring country. Four people are said to have been killed and nine injured (see video above).
According to Israel's military, it has targeted "terror targets of the Hezbollah militia" in several areas. The attacks took place just hours after shelling from Lebanon, which injured several people. According to Israeli reports, a female soldier was killed in an attack on a military base in the north. A photographer reported an injured man who was taken to hospital by a military helicopter.
International concern is now growing that there could be an escalation between the two countries. Army chief Herzi Halevi said on Wednesday that Israel's "next campaign will be a very strong offensive and we will use all our tools and capabilities." The pro-Iranian Hezbollah is "paying an ever higher price."
Four civilians killed
Lebanese media have now reported that four civilians have been killed in air strikes on locations in the south of the country. Nine other people were injured. Hezbollah did not initially claim responsibility for the attack on Israel. Head Hassan Nasrallah had said on Tuesday that the attacks from Lebanon would stop when "the attacks on Gaza stop and there is a ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas.
Halevi had hinted at a possible war in Lebanon in January. "I don't know when there will be war in the north. I can only say that the probability of it happening in the next few months is much higher than in the past." Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border have also intensified massively. Rockets are fired at Israel almost daily, while the south of Lebanon is repeatedly attacked.
