Plane crash in Lungau probably due to pilot error
All four people on board died in the accident in St. Andrä last November. According to an expert opinion, human error led to the accident.
The Cirrus SR-20 aircraft was on its way home from Croatia to Austria at the beginning of November 2023. In bad weather, the sports plane crashed in St. Andrä in Lungau, killing all four occupants. According to the official expert's report, the accident was probably caused by human error. This was reported by "ORF Salzburg".
According to the report, the four-seater small aircraft was overloaded by 82 kilograms. In addition, some of the specifications in the technical manual for this type of aircraft had not been observed. The flight planning is also said to have been inadequate: The pilot had misjudged the weather.
The aircraft crashed in very stormy weather and partly dense fog on the Passeggen - a mountain ridge in the municipality of St. Andrä in Lungau - in rough terrain in a wooded area. The Cirrus SR 20 was on its way back from Zagreb to Schärding am Inn airfield. In addition to the 39-year-old pilot from the district of Grieskirchen, a 50-year-old man from the district of Schärding, a 48-year-old man from Salzburg and a 52-year-old man from Bavaria also lost their lives.
