Fought with tears
Navalny’s wife demands “that Putin be punished”
The news of her husband Alexei Navalny's death apparently reached Yulia Navalnaya at the Munich Security Conference, where she made a surprise appearance. With tears in her eyes, she declared: "If it is the truth that he is dead, then I want Putin and everyone on his staff to be punished for it." The deceased's mother, meanwhile, reported that he was still well when she visited him on Monday.
The international consternation following Navalny's death is immense: many politicians have stated that they assume the famous Kremlin critic was murdered. His wife also addressed clear words to the public on the same day that the prison authorities reported the prisoner's death during a walk.
"We have to fight against these people"
"The day will come soon, I address my words to all the people of the world: we must come together and fight against these people. We must fight against this regime. Putin must be held personally responsible for all the crimes he has committed in our countries," said Navalnaya.
Deliberately decided against returning to children
When she heard the "terrible news", she wondered whether she really wanted to speak at the security conference or whether she should travel back to her children: "I asked myself, what would Alexei have done? He would have stayed here and spoken to you". She then addressed the Russian president personally: He and his subordinates would not get away with it. They would have to pay for what they had "done to our country, my family and my husband", and that day would come soon.
Spectators jumped out of their seats after the speech and applauded, while Navalnaya visibly had to fight back tears.
Navalny's mother "He was healthy and full of life"
Navalny's mother also spoke to the pro-Kremlin newspaper "Novaya Gazeta". "I don't want to hear any condolences," she explained in the interview. She had only visited her son in the prison camp last Monday: "He was alive, healthy and full of life."
Love message to Julia on Valentine's Day
Touching: It was only on Valentine's Day that Navalny sent his wife a love message via the X platform (see post above). "Baby, everything with us is like in a song: between us are cities, the lights of airports, blue snowstorms and thousands of kilometers. But I have the feeling that you are close by every second, and I love you more and more," the Kremlin critic wrote to his beloved.
