Smoke inhalation
Tyrol: Elderly couple in hospital after apartment fire
At around 5.20 p.m. on Sunday evening, an apartment fire in Franz-Schubert-Straße in Wörgl (Tyrol) required a large number of emergency services. An elderly couple - a man (80) and a woman (85) - were able to escape from a smoke-filled apartment just in time.
At around 5.10 p.m. on Sunday, frying fat ignited in the apartment of an apartment building in Wörgl, which the 85-year-old resident (Austrian national) had left in a pan on the stove when it was switched on. She and her 80-year-old partner were able to get to safety in time and leave the house.
Firefighters happened to be nearby
Two members of the Wörgl fire brigade, who happened to be at the scene, became aware of the smoke coming from the window and the ventilation in the affected kitchen. They alerted the fire department and took initial measures. When the emergency services arrived, flames could already be seen rising up to the roof truss. The fire was finally successfully extinguished and the fire was declared out at 5.45 pm.
After initial treatment, the 85-year-old woman and her partner were taken to Kufstein Hospital by the emergency services due to suspected smoke inhalation. The two first responders (22 and 53 years old) and the person who put out the call were also given initial medical treatment by the emergency services. However, they did not need to be taken to hospital. The amount of damage is currently unknown. On duty were: Five vehicles from the Wörgl fire brigade (40 personnel), two ambulances and two patrols from Wörgl police station.
