Ukraine war
Majority find Austria “no longer neutral”
Every second respondent (51%) thinks Austria is "no longer neutral." At the same time, a clear majority (78%) are in favor of maintaining neutrality.
According to a survey conducted by Unique Research* on the second anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine, two thirds of respondents are "very" or "somewhat" concerned about the war. However, the majority do not believe that the Russian military could attack Austria.
However, almost a third (31%) fear such an attack should Ukraine lose. Only a few would take up arms themselves in this case.
Here you can see the key results of the survey:
Half want to support Ukraine
Half of those surveyed stated that Austria's government should support the war-torn country. However, 42 percent of respondents also reject further aid. In addition, almost one in four respondents believe that NATO itself "provoked" the Russian attack by expanding eastwards. The majority (55%), on the other hand, think that the attack "cannot be justified by anything".
Attitudes towards the sanctions against Russia are also divided. Only just over one in ten people (13%) believe that the country is suffering, while significantly more (one third) believe that the sanctions are more damaging to the EU states than Russia.
The fact that Austria's government supports the coercive measures tends to be seen as correct. For around a third of respondents, this is the wrong approach.
*800 eligible voters in Austria were surveyed on behalf of the "Pragmaticus" publishing house. Only 15 percent of them would agree with a new security concept instead of neutrality. The fluctuation range of the results is 3.5 percent.
