“Navalny murdered”: Widow declares war on Putin
The widow of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in a prison camp, has declared war on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and wants to continue her husband's work. "I will continue the cause of Alexei Navalny, fight for our country. I call on you to stand by my side," said Yulia Navalnaya in a video message.
"I shouldn't have recorded this video. Another person should have been in my place. But this person was murdered by Vladimir Putin," the mother of two says in tears in the video, which was published on social media on Monday. By killing Navalny, Putin also tried to take away Russia's hope for freedom and justice. That is why she now wants to continue her husband's fight, Navalnaya said.
Accusation: tortured to death in prison camp
"Three days ago, Vladimir Putin killed my husband Alexei Navalny," she said in the video, which she began with the same greeting that Navalny always used in his messages. Her husband had been tortured and tortured to death in the prison camp by being repeatedly locked up in solitary confinement in a small concrete box.
The video in full length (Russian with English subtitles) on YouTube:
Wants to publish names of murderers
Navalnaya announced a revelation: She said she knew exactly why Putin had Navalny killed and also who carried out the murder on his behalf. "We will tell you their names and show you their faces," she explained.
Now the regime is even hiding the 47-year-old's body, Navalnaya said. In the video with many private pictures and recordings of Navalny's public appearances, she also showed a picture of the mother searching for her dead son in the polar region. Putin had taken away her dearest and most precious person, half of her soul and heart, said the 47-year-old woman. Like her husband, she wants to use the other half to fight against injustice and corruption and for a free Russia.
"Don't just share the grief, share the anger"
"Don't just share the grief and the endless pain that has enveloped us and will not go away. I call you to share this anger with me. The anger, the rage, the hatred for those who dared to destroy our future," she appealed to her fellow campaigners and the people of Russia.
"I am not afraid," she said, also referring to a statement by Navalny, who had repeatedly called on people in Russia to resist Putin. However, it was unclear whether she would return to Russia.
