Lack of weapons
Selenskyj: “Extremely difficult” situation at the front
Western arms deliveries to Ukraine have been stalling for months. There is a lack of artillery shells, air defense systems near the front and long-range missiles. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the situation at the front is "extremely difficult".
There are problems on sections of the front where the Russians have concentrated the largest reserves, Selensky said in his daily video address on Monday (see above). "They are taking advantage of delays in aid to Ukraine."
Selensky had previously visited the Kupyansk front section in the Kharkiv region. The Russians, who were driven out of the city in the fall of 2022, have been advancing on the small town with the strategically important railroad junction for weeks, partly because the Ukrainians have too little ammunition.
Country still dependent on aid
Although arms production is being driven forward, the country is currently unable to supply itself with weapons and is still dependent on aid.
The Ukrainian head of state assured his compatriots that Kiev was working hard to resume aid from its Western partners.
It was only at the weekend that Ukrainian forces were forced to withdraw from the city of Avdiivka.
