Two Carinthians had to answer for sexual abuse of minors at the regional court in Klagenfurt on Tuesday. One of the accused, a 26-year-old, was in the dock for the third time.

Once again, court spectators at the Klagenfurt provincial court had to endure some heavy fare. Two abuse trials not only challenged the audience, but also the jury panel chaired by Judge Gernot Kugi.

Once again, a 26-year-old man had to answer to the Klagenfurt Regional Court. The Carinthian had already had to answer to the court twice for pornographic depictions of minors.

Shortly after his second conviction, the 26-year-old contacted a 13-year-old boy again and not only exchanged relevant images with the boy, but also repeatedly urged the 13-year-old to perform sexual acts in video calls.

It was only when I was in custody that my eyes were opened to the fact that I had actually destroyed many lives with my actions.

"I simply wasn't aware of what a conviction would mean," the 26-year-old told Judge Gernot Kugi and fully confessed.

The Carinthian was sentenced to two years' imprisonment by the panel of lay judges. He must also pay his 13-year-old victim 700 euros in damages.

The verdict is not legally binding as the public prosecutor's office did not make a statement.

The trial continued against a Carinthian farmer who is accused of having sex with two young girls in the summer of 2023.

While the wife of the accused raved about the good nature of her husband, who is currently in custody, during her questioning before the lay jury, the medical expert Andreas Jungwirth attested that the farmer had partial erectile dysfunction.

Lay assessors find 60-year-old guilty
The expert opinion, but also the fiery closing statement, did not convince the panel of lay judges chaired by Judge Gernot Kugi. The court sentenced the 60-year-old to four years' imprisonment.

The verdict is not final, as the 60-year-old's defense filed an appeal for annulment.
