Car owners surveyed
Two thirds rely on their car in everyday life
For two thirds of respondents (65%), the car is indispensable in everyday life. They need it to juggle work and family life, for example, or are rather poorly connected to public transport. These are the findings of an Integral study of 500 Austrians.
However, only those who own a car were surveyed, which could have contributed to the high figure. It is mainly people who commute to work or education, but also those who are poorly connected to public transport or have to juggle family and job. In households with children, the car is still one of the most important means of transportation. According to the survey, 45% of multi-person households are completely dependent on it.
Cars are also more popular than average among young people aged between 18 and 29 (72%) and women (68%). In the age group between 30 and 49, one in two people also cannot do without their own vehicle.
Viennese less dependent
In terms of federal states, people in Upper Austria and Salzburg are particularly dependent on their car (75 percent). According to the survey, dependency is lowest in Vienna at 35 percent. Compared to the previous year, however, the figure has also risen here.
"The car has become much more important during the pandemic. However, the normalization has obviously by no means led to Austrians needing cars less (...)", says Nikolaus Menches from AutoScout24. The online car market commissioned the survey of 18 to 69-year-olds.
