The tragedy surrounding the jogger who was bitten to death in Naarn (Upper Austria) shocked the whole of Austria, but the defendant does not accept her guilt: It has now been announced that the Linz public prosecutor's office has charged the owner of the three listed dogs with gross negligence manslaughter. The trial is due to take place on March 7.

"The public prosecutor's office assumes that the defendant was traveling with three dogs and was overwhelmed. One dog caused her to fall by running from left to right. All three dogs then attacked the jogger together. The owner was neither physically nor with commands able to pull her dogs back from the victim in time. We are therefore charging gross negligence manslaughter", explains Ulrike Breiteneder, spokesperson for the Linz public prosecutor's office.

"Didn't do anything wrong"
Frightening and astonishing at the same time: the defendant admits that she fell because a dog - it was the American Staffordshire Terrier "Elmo" - made her fall, but then she only saw that the three dogs were with the jogger, she herself did nothing wrong.

On March 7, the dog owner will have to answer for her actions at the Linz Regional Court. The sentence is up to three years.

The tragedy happened on October 2
On October 2, Herta A. was attacked by an American Staffordshire terrier while jogging. The owner was walking the animal and two others from the kennel, was unable to prevent the sudden attack on the sportswoman and was injured herself. As it turned out, all three animals probably attacked the 60-year-old woman, who had probably approached from behind on a country lane. The autopsy revealed that the woman had died due to high blood loss as a result of countless bites.
