Ship caused bridge to collapse in China
A cargo ship has rammed into a bridge in southern China, causing it to partially collapse. Five people were killed and three others were injured. According to local authorities, one sailor suffered minor injuries, the others had to be treated in hospital.
The freighter crashed into the traffic bridge southeast of the Guangzhou metropolis in Guangdong province early on Thursday morning. According to initial investigations, two vehicles crashed into the water and three others fell onto the ship. Among them was a public bus that crashed into the hold of the freighter. Only the driver was on board the bus, who did not survive the accident.

Divers search for missing persons
The cause of the accident was not yet known. The authorities suspect that the crew was not steering the ship properly. Two people were rescued. Five people lost their lives. Divers had searched for the missing persons, who could only be recovered dead.
Chinese state television showed footage of the scene of the accident, in which the freighter can be seen wedged between two bridge pillars. There was a large gap in the two-lane bridge above it.
