Cobra operation in Tyrol: Man jumps from balcony
There was excitement in the Tyrolean municipality of Pfaffenhofen on Sunday afternoon! Shots were reportedly fired in a residential complex directly opposite the train station and a neighbor raised the alarm. Not only the police were called out, but also the Cobra task force. According to information from "Krone", however, the incident is said to have happened a little differently.
The peace and quiet on a relaxed, sunny Sunday was suddenly shattered in the afternoon. According to the Tyrolean police, a neighbor suddenly heard shots and immediately alerted the police. However, during a local inspection by the Tiroler Krone, eyewitnesses reported a slightly different version: "A man shouted from a balcony at around 3 pm and threw things into the courtyard. As a result, lots of police and emergency services were deployed, blocking all access roads around the station area." The eyewitnesses cannot confirm whether shots were actually fired. The neighbor could also have interpreted the sound of falling objects as gunshots.
"No firearm was recovered"
The police press spokesperson also emphasized to the "Tiroler Krone": "The officers were unable to recover a firearm at the scene. For this reason, we also don't know whether any shots were fired." The fact is, however, that the man is a 33-year-old local man.
"When the emergency services - twelve police patrols and the Cobra - arrived on the scene, the 33-year-old jumped from the balcony. He sustained injuries in the process," explains the spokesperson. However, he is unlikely to have jumped from too great a height. "According to current information, the balcony was on the second floor. The man's injuries are also unlikely to be serious," reports the police officer. The 33-year-old was taken to Innsbruck Hospital.
"Residents were evacuated"
This was also confirmed by eyewitnesses: "We saw one person being carried away on a stretcher." And what happened to the other residents? "They were evacuated from the block of flats by the emergency services. They all found shelter on the station premises and those people who were in the snack bar there were not allowed to leave during the operation, according to the police. Three hours later, everything was finally over," the eyewitnesses describe.
