Skier was thrown 27 meters through the air

Almost unbelievable scenes took place on Sunday in the "Skijuwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau" ski area in Tyrol! A German skier (51) lost control, took off at high speed and, according to the police, was thrown a whopping "27 (!) meters through the air" and crashed onto the slope. He sustained serious injuries in the process. 

The glorious weather attracted numerous locals and guests to the Tyrolean ski slopes - including a 51-year-old German. He made his turns in the "Skijuwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau" ski area and showed a lot of courage. At around 11.25 a.m., he ventured down the black marked slope number 55a - a venture that did not end well.

According to the police, the winter sports enthusiast was traveling fast
On entering piste number 52, the 51-year-old - who was going quite fast according to the police - lost control of his skis, took off and flew around 27 meters through the air. He then hit the ski slope with full force. 

Flown to hospital by helicopter
A doctor who happened to be present immediately carried out first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. After first aid, the winter sports enthusiast was flown to Innsbruck Hospital by the "Heli 4" emergency helicopter with serious back injuries.
