Fell out of a window
Cat survives fall from ninth floor of high-rise building
The Maine Coon cat "Mitsuki" in Lower Austria has probably had well over seven lives. However, because the treatment now costs a lot of money, the owner parted with her cat, and the animal shelter now has to raise the money ...
It's nothing short of a miracle that "Mitsuki" is still alive. "Normally you'd be dead as a doornail," her vets are certain. She had previously fallen almost 30 meters from a residential building in Krems. The accident happened while she was cleaning the apartment. The owner had opened the window, the velvet paw then jumped onto the window sill and probably lost her balance.
The seven-month-old cat was later diagnosed with a lung haemorrhage, a ruptured diaphragm, a dislocated hip, a fractured femur and injuries to her jaw. "She is currently being given strong painkillers and is still in shock," report the vets.
8000 euros in treatment costs
When "Mitsuki" recovers from her fall, she will have to find a new home. The estimated treatment costs of 8,000 euros are too much for her owner. She left her four-legged friend to the Krems animal shelter, which is now dependent on donations. The "Krone" animal corner has already pledged to cover 3000 euros.
"Since Corona, we have unfortunately often received cats because their owners cannot afford surgery costs," confirms animal shelter manager Andrea Specht. Last but not least, the veterinary costs for the Krems animal shelter almost tripled last year from 70,000 to 200,000 euros.
Nevertheless, the owner is facing problems. She is charged with cruelty to animals because, according to the Animal Protection Act, she should have fitted a fall protection device.
