The RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, wanted for attempted murder among other things, has been arrested. The 65-year-old was arrested in Berlin on Monday. She is accused of attempted murder, among other things. Another person was arrested a short time later - although their identity still needs to be clarified.

Further information on the exact circumstances was not available, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office in Verden, Lower Saxony, said on Tuesday. Klette is counted among the third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF).

Second arrestee is in the "wanted age segment"
The arrest of the second person is a man in the "wanted age segment", said Friedo de Vries, President of the State Criminal Police Office of Lower Saxony. The identity of the arrested man was still being clarified and it was not certain whether his identity document was genuine.

"We have an arrest of Ms. Klette," said Koray Freudenberg, senior public prosecutor in Verden. However, he had not yet found out exactly where and by whom she had been arrested. Ten days ago, there was a false alarm in connection with the RAF when a man on a regional train in Wuppertal was mistaken for former RAF member Ernst-Volker Staub.

Apparently arrested without resistance
However, Klette did not put up any resistance, reports Der Spiegel. She and the other so-called RAF retirees Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg were publicly searched for. The "Bild" newspaper first reported on the arrest.

The trio had been in hiding for more than 30 years. The three former left-wing terrorists are accused of attempted murder and numerous cases of robbery.

Brutal series of murders
The RAF is responsible for 33 murders from the 1970s to the early 1990s. In 1977, it killed the Federal Prosecutor General Siegfried Buback. Twelve years later, the then head of Deutsche Bank, Alfred Herrhausen, died in an explosives attack. The terrorist group officially disbanded in 1998 and no longer made an appearance.
