Sharp criticism of Dornauer from within their own ranks
Tyrol's red youth organizations once again voiced harsh criticism of their party leader Georg Dornauer on Tuesday. This was prompted by his statements on a conceivable "asylum cap at zero". The deputy governor had thus "crossed a line".
To underline the criticism, a banner with the inscription "This is not who we are" was hung from the party headquarters in Innsbruck. "We clearly need to have a debate about how we can guarantee the right to asylum in Europe for people seeking protection," admitted the youth organizations Aktion kritischer Schüler_innen (AKS), Junge Generation (JG), Sozialistische Jugend (SJ), Verband Sozialistischer Student_innen (VSStÖ) and the Social Democratic Freedom Fighters of Tyrol.
"However, anyone who questions or even wants to weaken the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) has learned absolutely nothing from the darkest chapter in our history," said Wolfgang Grünzweig from the Association of Social Democratic Freedom Fighters.
Anyone who loses the support of the party but is applauded by neo-Nazi radical right-wing sites such as Info-Direkt is definitely on the wrong track in terms of content within social democracy.
Vincent Gogala
"Great damage for social democracy"
"Anyone who loses the support of the party but is applauded by neo-Nazi, radical right-wing sites such as Info-Direkt is definitely on the wrong side of the fence when it comes to the content of social democracy," said Vincent Gogala, Chairman of VSStÖ Innsbruck, for example. Such statements should not go unanswered, he said. "Anyone who causes such great damage to social democracy must take full responsibility for it instead of indulging in daydreams about ministerial posts," emphasized Gogala.
Distanced from Babler, in line with Doskozil
Dornauer had recently distanced himself, at least in part, from the substantive course of SPÖ federal party chairman Andreas Babler. Dornauer not only supported the asylum cap proposed by Burgenland's regional party leader Hans Peter Doskozil, but even went one step further: "You can even discuss with me whether the asylum cap should not be zero for the coming years in Austria," he said in an interview with the "Standard".
