“Robin Hood” star Lewis dead at the age of 76

In "Robin Hood - Heroes in Tights" he amused as Prince John, most recently Richard Lewis shone in the sitcom "Curb Your Enthusiasm". The comedian died on Wednesday at the age of 76. He had only announced that he had Parkinson's disease in 2023.

He died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack, his spokesman Jeff Abraham announced on Wednesday (local time).

Lewis made his breakthrough in the United States in the 1980s as a stand-up comedian with his typically biting and black humor. He became known to a wider audience through his role in Mel Brooks' "Robin Hood" in the early 90s, where he played Prince John. He also repeatedly made guest appearances in the hit series "Leave it, Larry!".

Jamie Lee Curtis: Richard helped her overcome addiction
Numerous colleagues paid tribute to the late comedian. Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis described him as a wonderful actor and "incredibly funny" (see post above). She said she was eternally grateful to him for helping her overcome her addiction problems. She reminisced about their sitcom "Everything but Love" (1989 to 1992), in which they played lovers.

Richard was a "rare mixture"
Stars such as Bette Midler, Steve Martin, Albert Brooks and Ben Stiller also expressed their sadness and praised his talent. Comedian Larry David described Lewis as a "rare breed, the funniest and at the same time the sweetest man".
