Clinton's intern
Monica Lewinsky takes off as a model at 50
Bill Clinton's former and probably most famous intern Monica Lewinsky, who turned 50 last July, has joined the ranks of models. As the frontwoman of Reformation's new "You've Got the Power" campaign, she is also promoting the need for Americans to register and vote in November.
"Voting is about using our voice to be heard, and it's the most defining - and powerful - aspect of democracy," Lewinsky said in a press release announcing the campaign. "Voting is always important, but the stakes are especially high this year as voter frustration and apathy threaten to impact turnout."
The 2024 U.S. presidential election is the 60th election for President and Vice President of the United States and will take place on November 5, 2024.
Voter frustration and apathy
The campaign shows Lewinsky, photographed by Zoey Grossman, in a business collection for women. This includes leather coats, midi dresses and pencil skirts. Voters in the USA are being made aware of the campaign images on the "Vote.org" website.
In an interview with "Elle", Lewinsky admitted that voter fatigue is a problem in her country. "We've seen in polls that voter frustration is increasing and apathy is increasing. We all need to remember that we can't let that stop us from voting, that that's how we use our vote. That's where our power lies."
"Empowered woman"
Even beyond voting, Lewinsky wants to use the campaign to empower women, as she said in the press release: "A ref woman is an empowered woman - and an empowered woman uses her voice."
She explained the importance of empowerment in an Elle interview: "I don't know if this sounds cheesy, but I think one way women can feel more empowered is by recognizing places where they might need more support and asking for that support."
Monica Lewinsky became known worldwide when she had an affair with then US President Bill Clinton while working as a White House intern in the late 1990s. The scandal led to impeachment proceedings against President Clinton. Since then, Lewinsky has become an activist against cyberbullying and for the promotion of compassion and understanding online.
In 2021, she produced the FX series "Impeachment: American Crime Story," which traced her story and presented her side of the story to help viewers understand the pain she experienced from the judgment of public opinion and the harsh media landscape at the time.
