“The big revelations will come another time”

Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher lives strictly according to the Benedictine Rule and talks about it in his new book(Bild: Tschepp Markus)

Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher has joined the ranks of authors. He presented his new book in the archabbey on Thursday.

"Now I have to buy a book quickly and queue up to sign it," says Festival President Kristina Hammer at the sight of the long queue forming in front of Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher.

Former Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler, on the other hand, overtakes the queue on the far left as she has to continue to the stage. She dedicated a few kind words to her good friend Birnbacher at the book launch. "I got to know Korbinian in a precarious situation. His predecessor had to resign due to allegations of abuse. Korbinian had the difficult task of continuing to lead the institution from then on. I sent him flowers when he took office to show my support."

Birnbacher also treated being an author with respect. "This book was literally forced on me by my publisher. Obviously, in the position I'm in, you have to write a book like this at some point," says Birnbacher modestly - incidentally, this is just one of the 73 chapters in Benedict's Rule. The Archabbot goes into many more in his book "Weites Leben - weites Herz". At the same time, he admits: "The big revelations from my life will come another time. So far, they are only in my diary."
