More networking
Femicides: protection against violence to be strengthened
After seven femicides in just two months, politicians are looking for solutions to this problem of violence. Networking and coordination are to be improved.
At a summit meeting with representatives from the federal and state governments, the authorities and violence and victim protection institutions, it was agreed to strengthen coordination and networking. Involved institutions such as women's shelters, counseling centers, violence protection centers and police stations are to be networked even more closely.
Doctors should be involved as contact points
A first suggestion: doctors' surgeries, which are often the last point of contact for women who are victims of violence, should be more involved in raising awareness. In addition, each individual case should be analyzed on a scientific basis. The strategy should also look to other countries.
On the police side, separate regional coordinators are to be created in the districts as well as a separate analysis unit in the Federal Criminal Police Office. In addition, part-time coordinators for the protection against violence in the federal states are to work full-time in future. Priority checks are planned in the red-light district. Support for the government came from the SPÖ. It welcomed all the steps and announced that it would vote in favor of the corresponding laws.
