Rapid: Conditional points deduction reduced
Rapid's conditional points deduction due to fan misconduct has been reduced! The Bundesliga club held two extensive workshops on time, which covered topics such as the correct handling of pyrotechnics, potential dangers and the legal basis in this regard as well as the prevention of violence.
In addition to representatives of Rapid, representatives of fan clubs were also present. "The conditional points deduction following the incidents at the championship match against Sturm Graz will thus be reduced from three points to one point," the Bundesliga said in a statement.
Hütteldorf had also received a fine of 50,000 euros for excessive use of pyrotechnics by fans, and this penalty remains in place.
Further procedure after derby scandal
Despite the reduction in the points deduction, Rapid are facing further trouble: on Monday evening, videos of assistant coach Stefan Kulovits and several players appeared on the internet in which they were heard chanting homophobic chants during the derby celebrations. The Bundesliga filed charges against the players and the club on Tuesday. Managing director Steffen Hofmann is also affected.
"Due to the urgency of dealing with the events, Rapid will submit a written statement to Senate 1 before the expiry of this deadline and will take the opportunity for a personal hearing late Monday evening," said a Rapid press release. At this hearing, Rapid will also present a list of measures to combat homophobia and sexism.
A press conference is then planned for Tuesday with President Alexander Wrabetz and Vice-President Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, among others. Talks with sponsors are also on the agenda, and contact has already been made this week with several institutions that are committed to the fight against homophobia and sexism and will continue to do so.
