Catalog of measures
Rapid is now fighting homophobia and sexism
Following the scandal surrounding the Vienna soccer derby, Rapid has announced that it will present a list of measures to combat homophobia and sexism at the Bundesliga hearing on Monday evening. The club will also take the opportunity of a personal hearing and submit a written statement to the league beforehand, according to a statement from Hütteldorf on Friday.
A press conference is then planned for Tuesday with President Alexander Wrabetz and Vice President Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger, among others. Talks with sponsors are also on the agenda, and contact has already been made this week with several institutions involved in the fight against homophobia and sexism and will be continued.
Following the emergence of the videos with homophobic and other offensive comments, the League Senate 1 initiated two proceedings against the Green-Whites - one against managing director Steffen Hofmann, the other against Rapid in general and the players involved, such as Guido Burgstaller and Marco Grüll, as well as assistant coach Stefan Kulovits.
Points deduction reduced
Regardless of the "derby cause", there was also positive news for Rapid from the Bundesliga on Friday. The conditional points deduction for the following season, originally set at three points in the event of another serious incident and subject to a probationary period until October 9, 2025, was reduced to one point by the protest committee following the workshops held with representatives of the active fan scene.
The fine of 50,000 euros, however, remains unchanged. Rapid waives the right to appeal to the Permanent Neutral Court of Arbitration, making the decision legally binding.
