Meeting on Friday
FIA and FOM want to discuss the Horner case now
FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem and FOM boss Stefano Domenicali have planned a meeting in Bahrain on Friday. According to several reports, they will discuss the next steps in the Horner case.
On the sidelines of the season opener at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the two Formula 1 managers decided to discuss the next steps in the Horner case. The case continues to hover over the new season like a sword of Damocles.
The Red Bull team boss was recently cleared of any wrongdoing following an independent investigation. This was confirmed by his racing team on Wednesday. But just one day later, the matter took a major turn for the worse.
What will happen next?
Controversial chat messages, which are said to have been part of the investigation into the Briton, were emailed from an anonymous account to journalists, team bosses and Formula 1 bosses. Among the recipients were Mohammed bin Sulayem and Stefano Domenicali.
The FOM has no direct regulatory authority, but wants to limit the damage to the image of the racing series. The FIA also wants to ensure that Formula 1 does not fall into disrepute as a result of the Horner case. The existing possibilities are to be discussed between the two bosses. The FIA could, for example, demand to see the results of the investigation. However, Red Bull would not be obliged to comply with this request, citing the privacy of the persons involved.
