Trial in Innsbruck
Luxury car wrecked
Very drunk, he first drove a stolen Lamborghini into a wall in a single night and then crashed a stolen Cupra. Now a brazen car thief (29) is behind bars.
"I'm very sorry about everything, it was absolutely unnecessary," a 29-year-old Croatian man confessed in court in Innsbruck. The man was clearly too drunk in November last year and crashed two expensive cars in a single night in Gurgl in the Tyrolean Ötztal. "I've had a serious alcohol problem for a long time," the accused bluntly described how the daring joyrides came about.
"Heavily intoxicated" decision made
After at least two beers and four bottles of wine, the then waiter discovered an open garage door "heavily intoxicated", had a quick look around the premises and made the extremely serious decision to drive the cars with the ignition key in each.
Croatian allegedly bit police officers
However, the 29-year-old vehemently denied that he put up fierce resistance during his arrest and even bit one of the police officers on the thigh. "I'm not an animal, I don't do things like that," he said.
Judgment already legally binding
In the end, the judge showed little mercy and decided on a prison sentence: the Croatian must spend four months behind bars. Although it was not proven that he broke open the garage door, she was convinced that he did indeed bite the officer's leg. The verdict is already final.
