All bliss?
Horner and Halliwell smile in love in Bahrain
All is bliss with the Horners? At least that's what recent pictures from Bahrain suggest. The Red Bull team boss smiles with his wife Geri Halliwell, emphatically in love and relaxed. And there was also a big kiss in the paddock just before the race for his "incredible wife", as he explained.
At least in the photos that arrived via agencies, it doesn't look as if the two are having to overcome a potential marriage crisis. Horner and Halliwell - a global star in the 90s as the "Spice Girl" - are demonstratively shown together, smiling relaxedly, showing their affection for each other, making small talk with other people and kissing passionately. As if nothing had ever happened.
Dubious email upsets
Whether and what exactly happened? Nobody really knows at the moment (apart from Horner and the employee who originally made the allegations against him). Although the investigation against Horner for inappropriate behavior towards a female employee had already been closed, the case was given an unpleasant spin for Horner and Red Bull on Thursday and Friday: An anonymous email was sent to over 100 stakeholders in the Formula 1 scene. It contained: Screenshots of sometimes unsavory chats between Horner and his employee. Are they real? Currently completely unclear.
Horner's wife Geri Halliwell was still in her private jet on Thursday to support her husband mentally and emotionally at the Formula 1 season opener in Bahrain. British media reported that she only found out about the email directly on the flight.
No new investigations
Meetings were then held on Friday and Horner was summoned to the FIA leadership - as it turned out on Saturday just before the race, without any real result, or at least without any consequences. The FIA did not want to investigate the Red Bull boss, but President Mohammed Ben Sulayem did make the following statement: "It hurts the sport. It hurts on a human level."
"Have the support of an incredible woman"
Horner himself also spoke out via a press release: "I have the support of an incredible family, an incredible wife and a great team. Now we are concentrating on winning more Grands Prix."
So at least on Saturday, Red Bull was able to concentrate on what everyone involved had come to Bahrain to do: racing.
There were no anomalies: Red Bull took the one-two victory in the first race of the season, as was to be expected.
