Gleirscher third at the season finale in Sigulda

Tyrolean Nico Gleirscher luged to third place at the World Cup season finale in Sigulda on Sunday. His brother David Gleirscher came fifth. World champion Lisa Schulte finished sixth in the women's singles. Madeleine Egle finished eighth, and the European champion came third overall. In the men's event, Jonas Müller was the best Austrian overall in fourth place. 

Elina Vitola and Kristers Aparjods took the day's victories in Latvia on their home track. In the team relay won by Germany, Austria only finished seventh and last after Schulte tipped over. However, they still defended second place in the relay classification.

The numerous victories and podium finishes as well as the doubles World Cup won by Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl ensured a positive conclusion for the Austrian federation. "It was a great season where a lot of things worked out. Our work has been confirmed, but the process is far from over. We know what needs to be done and, motivated by the successes, we will soon roll up our sleeves again," said ÖRV coach Christian Eigentler.

Vice world champion Nico Gleirscher achieved his fourth podium finish of the winter at the final. "I've been fourth, fifth or sixth so many times in Sigulda. It's mega cool to finally be on the podium here. The season started really well for me, and the World Championships and European Championships were also great thanks to the medals. After that I fell into a bit of a hole, I found it brutally difficult, so it feels all the better now," explained the Tyrolean.
