"Movement Camp" week
Where young people learn to move properly again
Defying the lack of exercise is one of the biggest challenges these days in an increasingly digitalized world. A week-long camp in Wölbling near St. Pölten teaches young people how much fun exercise can be. 3,000 euros have now also been donated to the association.
The "Freiraumcoach" educational project in the municipality of Wölbling near St. Pölten has been committed to the holistic education of children and young people since 2006. With a change in focus, an association was also founded in 2017 and the focus has now shifted to exercise.
"Significant lack of exercise"
"What we often notice in our work with young people in particular is a significant lack of exercise in many respects," explains Ruth Pfeiffer, chairwoman of the association. In order to counteract this lack, the idea of the "Movement Camp" was born - a week of exercise that recently took place on the premises of the "Freiraum Leben" educational project in the municipality of Wölbling. 28 children aged between twelve and sixteen had the opportunity to let off steam and play together in the afternoons. The aim of the week was to promote the youngsters' coordination of movement and to learn and deepen various forms of movement.
Deepening planned with "afternoon"
To organize and run the Movement Camp, the association needed a number of materials, including sports mats, to ensure a safe environment. The IDEA Helvetia Foundation supported the project with a donation of 3,000 euros. "I think it's great that children and young people are having fun with exercise here. At the Movement Camp, they were able to test their skills and stamina together and try out new things," emphasized Gernot Hauer, who presented the donation. The association is currently planning to continue with a "Movement Afternoon" to keep the young people interested.
