Spectacular coup: Car crashed into an auction house
A major operation for the Graz police on Monday morning: criminals crashed a car into an auction house and stole valuable jewelry. They then gave police a chase through half the city.
It is probably the most spectacular criminal case in Styria so far this year: on Monday night, unknown criminals crashed a car into an auction house on Jakominiplatz in Graz. The criminals apparently reversed their car into a display and cleared it out. Shortly before 3.30 a.m., the alarm triggered a large-scale operation by the Graz police. "We received the alarm at 3.24 a.m. and a few minutes later the first colleagues were on site," police spokesman Markus Lamb told Krone.
However, the perpetrators had already finished their "work" and fled. They apparently wanted to leave the city via Dietrichsteinplatz and Münzgrabenstraßen, pursued by several police patrols. "Thanks to the high density of patrols in Graz and the perfect cooperation with the SIG group, our colleagues were able to catch the suspects quickly," Lamb is convinced. At the Fröhlichgasse intersection near the trade fair, a roadblock was set up in an attempt to stop the criminals. But they drove around the roadblock.
Arrest by rapid intervention group
Shortly afterwards, however, an SRC-SIG (Rapid Intervention Group) vehicle was able to stop the getaway vehicle and arrest two suspects. Since then, the investigation has been in full swing. For reasons of criminal tactics, the police do not want to give any details about the two detainees or the loot. "Possible connections with other recent crimes are currently being investigated," explains Lamb.
At the auction house itself, operations are currently restricted, as a spokeswoman told the "Krone". However, they would like to thank the police "for their quick and excellent work".
