Belgian band amused drivers during traffic jam
This is how you like to stand in a traffic jam! A four-piece band from Belgium recently put drivers in a good mood during a traffic jam in Germany. Among them was Floris Willem from Purkersdorf, who defied boredom with his violin.
Floris Willem, Gert Peeten, Dries Peeten and Simon Schrooten - members of the Belgian band "Floris and the Flames" - were on their way to Belgium after several gigs in Germany when the quartet got caught in a traffic jam near Nuremberg: long waiting times and boredom were inevitable.
To keep the drivers and themselves entertained, they spontaneously pulled out their instruments and played a few songs in the middle of the highway. "Some people even got out of their vehicles and danced along!" reports Floris Willem, who lives in Purkersdorf in the St. Pölten district. They also put a smile on the children's faces with their private concert. In a video that the band published on their platforms, you can see numerous car drivers bobbing along to their music and forgetting the annoying traffic jam for a short time.
Purkersdorfer by choice sets the tone
The 30-year-old violinist has lived in Austria for ten years and teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as an assistant to Professor Christian Altenburger.
Even though he no longer lives in Belgium, he still enjoys performing on stage with his band colleagues. "Floris and the Flames" offers a mix of violin, piano, bass guitar, drums and electronics and thus inspires young and old on large open-air stages. Not only do the four share a passion for music, but also their red hair!
Tip: Floris Willem will not be playing on the highway on Friday, March 15, but at the Purkersdorf Concert Hall. Look forward to a spring-like program with works by Peteris Vasks, Ludwig van Beethoven, Edvard Grief and Beeckmans/Willem! Floris Willem enchants on the violin, Philippe Raskin on the piano.
