Threats from Moscow
Medvedev wants Russia to follow “historical” model
In a public speech, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev described Ukraine as part of Russia. According to the RIA news agency, the vice-chairman of the National Security Council said on Monday that it was not possible to revive the USSR. However, "historical parts" of Russia should "return."
The Putin confidant thus once again confirmed the Russian leadership's fantasies of imperialism. However, Medvedev left open which countries this would affect. However, Moldova, Poland and the Baltic states have been warning of the Kremlin's expansion plans since the start of the war.
Comparison with the Cuban crisis
Medvedev also commented on the USA. He described Russia's relations with the United States as extremely poor. The close confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the view that US special forces and military advisors were waging a war against Russia.
Former USSR states are now NATO members:
The German political leadership also criticized Medvedev in connection with the Bundeswehr wiretapping scandal. Russia would "show restraint, but not forget". Peace talks with the "current Ukrainian government are not possible". The "military operation" will therefore continue until "the other side capitulates".
Berlin under pressure
In the Taurus wiretapping affair, Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has called for calm and unity. Nobody believes that the publication of the recording of a conversation between German army officers about Taurus cruise missiles for Ukraine was a coincidence, Pistorius said in Berlin on Sunday. "This is clearly about undermining our unity. It is about driving our domestic policy apart."
German politicians must not make the mistake of falling for Russia's President Vladimir Putin, warned Pistorius. "It is part of an information war that Putin is waging."
