Christopher Nolan's biopic about the father of the atomic bomb, "Oppenheimer", is the big winner at the 96th Academy Awards. The three-hour drama was named best film in Hollywood on Monday night and was able to turn a total of seven out of 13 nominations into awards. Not only was lead actor Cillian Murphy awarded his first Oscar as lead actor, but Nolan also took the award for best director.

There were also wins in the categories of cinematography, editing, film music and supporting actor. "I've dreamed of this moment for so long and now I don't even know what to say," said "Oppenheimer" producer Emma Thomas, visibly speechless at the triumph.

She was probably also a little speechless about Al Pacino, who rather listlessly announced the award for Best Film. Instead of celebrating the suspense, he mumbled the name of the film "Oppenheimer" almost inaudibly to himself.

The runner-up in the field of nominees, Giorgos Lanthimos' feminist parable "Poor Things", was able to swap four of its eleven nominations for an Oscar in the end.

Murphy dedicated Oscar to "peacemakers worldwide"
As expected, this year's lead role Oscar went to Cillian Murphy for his role in "Oppenheimer". He beat Paul Giamatti and Bradley Cooper, among others.

"It has been the most creative and satisfying journey of my life. I dedicate this Oscar to the peacemakers around the world," said the Irishman, expressing his gratitude for the award.

Oppenheimer" was also victorious in the "Best Director" category. The Oscar went to Christopher Nolan, who said: "I am a part of this hundred years of film history and that means an incredible amount to me."

Outfit faux pas for Stone
In the leading actress category, however, there was a win for Emma Stone and not, as many expected, for Lily Gladstone. The 35-year-old picked up her award for her courageous performance in Giorgos Lanthimos' Frankenstein paraphrase "Poor Things", which she also produced.

"It's not about me. It's about a team that came together to make something great. Thank you so much for letting me be Bella Baxter," said Stone in her acceptance speech, which started with a small outfit faux pas. The actress had torn her dress - probably during Ryan Gosling's "Ken" performance!

First Oscar for Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. was delighted to receive the Oscar for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in "Oppenheimer". In his speech, he thanked his "vet or wife", who had saved his life.

"The entire ensemble was simply super", he also thanked his "Oppenheimer" colleagues. "I've become a better person because of them."

In the drama, Downey Jr. plays the opponent of the main character J. Robert Oppenheimer, the politician and entrepreneur Lewis Strauss. This is his first Oscar; the American has been nominated twice before.

Da'vine Joy Randolph also honored
The first Oscar of the evening went to Da'vine Joy Randolph, who was awarded "Best Supporting Actress" for her role in "The Holdovers".

"For a long time I just wanted to be different. But now I've realized I just have to be myself," she sobbed in her acceptance speech. "I pray to God that it won't be my only Oscar."

An Oscar streaker!
An Oscar "streaker" also provided plenty of laughs that evening: but naked John Cena obviously didn't quite dare to go on stage. "I can't really announce the winner now," he finally sighed. The Oscar envelope covered his "best piece".

"Here you can see how important costumes are," joked the wrestler and actor, before "Poor Things" went on to win an Oscar in the "Best Costume Design" category.

"Will help me overcome my midlife crisis"
"War Is Over!" won in the "Best Animated Short Film" category, while "The Boy and the Heron" was awarded in the "Best Animated Film" category.

"20 Days in Mariupol" received the award in the "Best Documentary Film" category. "It is the Oscar in the history of my country, Ukraine. I wish I had never had to make this movie. I wish I was in a position where Russia had never attacked Ukraine," said Mstyslav Chernov in his moving speech.

Justine Triet and Arthur Harari were delighted to receive the Oscar for "Best Original Screenplay" for "Anatomy of a Case". "This will help me cope with my midlife crisis," explained 45-year-old Triet pragmatically.

Ryan Gosling rocked the stage
Dressed in a pink suit and accompanied by numerous dancers, Ryan Gosling let himself be celebrated during his "Barbie" song "I'm Just Ken". He rocked the stage together with Slash.

Even "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig and "Barbie" Margot Robbie couldn't stay in their seats - they sang along loudly. What a brilliant show, the audience was thrilled!

Standing ovations for Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish also provided the musical backdrop to the Oscar Gala. She sang "What Was I Made For" from "Barbie", accompanied by her brother Finneas O'Connell on the piano. There were standing ovations for this emotional performance.

In the end, Eilish and her brother were delighted to receive an Oscar. "I didn't expect the award," the singer explained in her speech. "It is an honor. I really appreciate this movie."

"Messi" the dog in the audience
In his opening speech, Kimmel, who hosted the gala for the fourth time, expressed his surprise that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were not nominated for an Oscar. "I don't know why they're clapping, they didn't vote for them," he addressed the audience.

Dog "Messi" was also in the audience. The border collie has a major appearance as "Snoop" in the courtroom thriller "Anatomy of a Case".

First baby for Hudgens
Earlier, Vanessa Hudgens provided a sugar-sweet surprise on the red carpet. She appeared in a black, skin-tight dress, under which a round baby bump was clearly bulging.

It is the first child for the "High School Muscial" beauty, who has been married to baseball star Cole Tucker since December last year. Of course, fellow actress Julianne Hough did not miss the opportunity to congratulate her.

But it wasn't just Hudgens who arrived on the red carpet, which was actually red again this year, not champagne-colored as at last year's Oscars. Jamie Lee Curtis, who chatted with fans on the red carpet, a beautiful Eva Longoria and German Oscar hopeful Sandra Hüller were also busy posing for the photographers.

Cooper not with Gigi, but with mom
America Ferrera had a hell of a time on the red carpet with Billie Eilish, while Kirsten Dunst came with husband Jesse Plemons and Christoph Waltz was in a good mood. Emma Stone, who is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Anya Taylor-Joy made a wonderful appearance.

"Ken" Ryan Gosling was one of the most popular subjects for the photographers on the red carpet. Emily Blunt, who came with husband John Krasinski, was just as excited about the gala as Bradley Cooper.

Unfortunately, the latter did not bring his girlfriend Gigi Hadid to the Oscar carpet - he once again appeared with his mom Gloria, who was visibly proud of her Oscar-nominated son.

They also sang on the red carpet, as an Instagram video showed. Amelia Dimoldenberg, Ke Huy Quan and Cynthia Erivo sang a serenade.

Crash landing and a political statement
The red carpet appearance was not quite as glamorous for Netflix star Liza Koshy. The actress and influencer, who was recently seen in the Valentine's Day flick "Players", was doomed by her crazy high platform sandals: Koshy stumbled and crash-landed on the red carpet.

The 27-year-old covered up the embarrassing mishap by saying: "Didn't see the open manhole." She then posed lying down for a few extra seconds before being helped up.

Security measures tighter than ever
The security measures surrounding the 96th Academy Awards were tighter than ever this year. For the first time ever, Hollywood Boulevard was closed to cars outside the office of our Hollywood correspondent Christian Thiele - around 1.3 kilometers (!) from the red carpet. And on the footpath to the Dolby Theater, you were checked four times for your valid admission ticket and also had to go through a metal detector.

The Oscar organizers hired a total of 2000 security guards. In addition, there was a large contingent from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as well as an undisclosed number of FBI agents and explosives detection experts - the latter two-legged and four-legged.

LAPD spokesman Randy Goddard when asked why things were even stricter this year: "There are specific warnings that the event will be disrupted by groups protesting against the Israel-Hamas conflict." Behind the action are various pro-Palestinian groups whose motto is "No award during a genocide".
