Former St. Pölten player Christoph Klarer is in a sporting crisis with Darmstadt, but believes they can stay in the league.

"Of course, we didn't expect to go down like that at home, it's an absolute low blow for us," growled Darmstadt legend Christoph Klarer after the recent 6-0 debacle in the German Bundesliga against Augsburg.

Relegation as a mammoth task
However, the blonde, who recently paid tribute to his exertions and missed two weeks, still has a long way to go to keep the team out of the league. And the mission will be a mammoth task. The bottom team has now gone 17 (!) Bundesliga games without a win and is already a whopping twelve points behind the ominous line and VfL Bochum in the table.

Tough chunks await
"We all know the table, we know how difficult it will be." Nevertheless, the defender is not throwing in the towel. "We're only four points behind Cologne and the relegation place. As long as we have a chance, we'll give it everything we've got until the end."

Now, however, tough opponents await. They travel to Leipzig on Saturday before hosting Bayern at the Böllenfalltor stadium a week later. "A tough program. However, we also face all of our direct rivals," said the 23-year-old former St. Pölten man, who continues to believe in the strengths of his squad.
