"Our world was falling apart"
Murdoch granddaughter’s marriage only lasted twelve hours
Charlotte Emma Freud's marriage to rapper Luke Storey was already in ruins just twelve hours after her romantic vows. The 23-year-old granddaughter of media mogul Rupert Murdoch has now spoken to the Daily Mail about her personal marriage drama.
Charlotte Emma Freud's wedding to rapper Luke Storey in July 2022 was a real society event. No wonder, it was also the granddaughter of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, worth around 19 billion, who celebrated her dream wedding in the British Cotswolds in the south of England.
Marriage in ruins after 12 hours
But even celebrity guests such as Woody Harrelson and co. could not have guessed what happened just hours after saying "I do". "We had been married for twelve hours when our whole world collapsed," the now 23-year-old told the Daily Mail.
Her newlywed husband had "relapsed on the way to our honeymoon". "That was not a good sign."
Charlotte met the rapper with a history of drugs and alcohol when she was just 18 and he was 33. He helped the young woman overcome her ketamine addiction.
"Our marriage was a shitshow"
Looking back, however, the now 23-year-old knows: "Our marriage was a shitshow." Because there were actually three "people" in her relationship with Luke Storey: "me, him and our recovery".
"When our recovery was strong, we were strong, and when it wasn't strong, we broke up," Charlotte explained - and continued: "So we had a great relationship when we were sober, but neither of us could stay sober."
Celebrating the wedding in such a high-profile way gave a completely false impression. "Everyone thought our relationship was wonderful."
Divorce after 14 months
In September, Charlotte Emma Freud and Luke Storey's divorce became official - just 14 months after saying "I do".
The Murdoch granddaughter has since found happiness with a new boyfriend in Los Angeles and will soon be launching a dating app for people who are sober. "It can be very isolating if you go on dates as a sober person, especially in the UK where drinking is so prevalent."
