Meta group struggled with technical disruption
Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread technical disruptions on Tuesday. Numerous users worldwide reported problems when logging in. According to Meta spokesperson Andy Stone, the problem was resolved by the evening.
"A technical issue caused users to have difficulty accessing some of our services today. We have resolved the issue for all those affected as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience caused," wrote Meta spokesperson Andy Stone on the X platform on Tuesday evening. He had previously posted that the company was aware of the technical problem and was already working on a fix.

WhatsApp was still working
The disruption began at 4.30 pm CET and lasted until around 6.30 pm. Users in several countries had difficulties logging into Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Threads was founded last year as a competitor service to X and is a reaction to developments following the takeover by Elon Musk. WhatsApp, which also belongs to the US internet company Meta, is said to have had no problems.
User: "Wasn't hacked"
One X user described the disruption as Instagram not loading for him and his Facebook session being automatically logged out. He was relieved that he had not been hacked. Other users said matter-of-factly that some people had probably realized that they had so much time and nothing to do because of the outage.

The outage was less serious than, for example, that of Facebook in 2021, when a configuration error in a protocol led to the company accidentally deleting its own address from the systems. As a result, the servers were no longer able to communicate with each other. Fixing the error took several hours at the time.
